The sound “Yumuşak ge” could be translated as “soft g”, has a “cap”
on top, and it affects the vowels which it always follows. If the preceding is a back vowel
(a, ı, o, u) then Ğ will lengthen that sound. If the preceding vowel is a front vowel
(e, i, ö, ü) then Ğ will be pronounced like “ye”.
Examples for Ğ before (a, ı, o, u): yağmur, Iğdır (a city in Turkey), oğul, uğur
Examples for Ğ before (e, i, ö, ü): eğitim, iğne, öğlen, düğme
